Why it received this score

A parolee named Val reunites with old partners for a night of brothels, stolen cars, and erectile dysfunction gags. The film is a hangout crime comedy, loose and actor-driven. The cast is overwhelmingly white and male. Women exist as prostitutes, a nurse, a kidnapped victim, and a granddaughter. There is no design toward diverse representation and no commentary on that absence. It simply is what it is, a relic of a certain Hollywood comfort zone.

No LGBTQ characters or themes. No feminist agency. Race is never addressed. Climate concerns do not enter the frame. Economic critique is absent. The criminals are not stand-ins for class warfare. They are just criminals. Body positivity is not on the menu either. The film treats bodies as sources of leering comedy, with a hospital scene that turns an erection into a punchline. Neurodivergence is not explored. The past is not revised because there is no history here, only fictional gangster nostalgia.

The film does not lecture. It rambles, it riffs, it lets Pacino and Walken and Arkin fill the silence with gravel and charm. There is no progressive sermon hiding in the diner booth. The moral questions are personal: loyalty, mortality, whether Doc can shoot his friend. The movie asks us to enjoy the company and tolerate the mess. It is not trying to educate anyone about social justice. It is trying to get three legends through a thin script. That is a modest goal, and the film meets it unevenly. We leave with no cultural agenda, only the faint smell of cigar smoke and regret.
