👑
Feminist Agenda10

Alice Lowe co-wrote and co-stars, and Tina evolves into the more chaotic and ultimately dominant killer, but this is character-driven dark comedy rather than any articulated feminist agenda.

💰
Eat the Rich8

There is mild class satire of National Trust tourism, posh incidental characters, and consumer leisure culture, but no coherent eat-the-rich message.

📢
Lecture Energy5

The film is a deadpan satire of British leisure culture, but it observes and provokes rather than lecturing the audience on social issues.

🎭
Representation Casting0

The cast is overwhelmingly white British, with no diverse casting choices made for representational purposes and no comment on race or identity in the narrative.

🏳️‍🌈
LGBTQ+ Themes0

There are no LGBTQ+ characters, themes, or subtext anywhere in the film; the central relationship is a heterosexual couple.

✊
Racial Consciousness0

Race is entirely absent as a theme; the film's satire targets British caravan culture and class, not racial dynamics.

🌱

Why it received this score

Sightseers arrives from 2012, a year that now feels like a distant archaeological layer, and it conducts its business with a grim cheerfulness that resists nearly every contemporary category of social instruction. Chris and Tina take a caravan holiday through the English midlands, kill a litterer, kill a writer, kill a rambler, and eventually reach the Ribblehead Viaduct, where the relationship concludes with one hand slipping free of another. Ben Wheatley directs the whole thing as a comedy of embarrassment with actual corpses. The targets are National Trust car parks, hen parties, miniature caravans, and the peculiar English conviction that a holiday is something to be endured.

Alice Lowe co-wrote the script with Steve Oram and performs Tina as the more volatile of the two, which grants the film a certain structural authority from a female perspective, though nobody involved appears to have been building a case for anything. The killing escalates according to private logic, not ideology. Chris believes himself a justified man with standards. Tina simply unravels. That the woman becomes the dominant and final survivor is a matter of narrative appetite, not argument.

There is mild class observation here, some gentle mockery of posh incidental characters and the consumer rituals of leisure, but the film has no interest in converting its audience to a position. It observes, provokes, and then sets the caravan on fire. The film leaves us with a nasty, funny, oddly tender road movie about two people who should not be allowed near a gift shop. The absence of a sermon is the point, and it is a relief.
