Why it received this score

Dikkenek arrived in 2006 and has since settled into cult status in France and Belgium, a fact that says a great deal about the region's tolerance for a certain strain of beer-soaked vulgarity. The plot, such as it is, follows Jean-Claude, a loud-mouthed boor, and Stef, a self-styled lady killer who cannot rouse himself from bed long enough to seduce anyone. Around them orbit a slaughterhouse, a phone booth, a photographer's studio, and a rotating cast of grotesques. The film is a hangout comedy with no interest in improving anyone, least of all its audience.

The casting is uniformly pale, and the film has nothing to say about it, which is its own kind of statement. Same-sex material does surface, a threesome here, a kinky flourish there, but it is played for snickering payoff and never for identity. Women exist to be appraised, pursued, and photographed, which places the whole enterprise at some distance from contemporary gender politics. A racist cop appears as a comic grotesque, a figure of fun with no critique attached, and the film treats him as it treats everyone: a punchline with legs.

There is no climate anxiety here, no eat-the-rich sentiment, no interest in body acceptance, neurodivergence, or the rewriting of history. Physical appearance serves mostly as ammunition for mockery. The film lectures no one. It has no message, no moral, and no apparent ambition beyond the next crude laugh. For a student of cultural markers, this is barren ground, and the harvest is correspondingly thin. It is, in its own loutish way, refreshing.

Synopsis

Jean-Claude is a loud-mouthed, know-it-all and full time boor who is best friends with Stef, a self-styled lady killer who would do better with the fairer sex if he could work up the ambition to wake up in the morning. Stef has decided that he may need some help in finding the woman of his dreams, and embracing loyalty rather than logic he turns to Jean-Claude for advice.
